Sign language: Northern Essex Community College provides sign language instruction for families with a deaf or hard-of-hearing child. T-ball League: The Haverhill YMCA is registering players for its introductory T-Ball League. The league is open to children ages 3 to 5. The eight-week season begins May 5 and ends with a celebration. Teams will meet for one hour, with a half hour of team practice time followed by a 30 minute game. Location of games will be announced two weeks prior to the start of the season. The cost is $54 for Y members and $77 for others. In the event of inclement weather, games will be indoors at the YMCA, 81 Winter St. Parents who volunteer to coach get a 25 percent discount off their child's registration fee. Reading Buddy Program: The public library is offering a Reading Buddy Program in partnership with Zion Bible College Work Study program. Reading Buddies Nicole and John are available to help your child practice reading skills, provide encouragement and support when he or she is stuck on a word, and help show how much fun reading can be. Sessions, 30-minutes, are available after school on Mondays and Tuesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., and from 5 to 6 p.m., and Wednesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. To make an appointment, call 978-373-1586, ext. 626.

LOCAL ACTIVITIES

Comedy Show: Community Action Inc. will hold a comedy show fundraiser featuring two of the top comedians in the region April 13 at the Haverhill Country Club, 58 Brickett Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m. for drinks and appetizers. The show starts at 8 p.m. The event, titled "Comedy for a Cause," will include a live auction, raffles and mystery balloon games to benefit CAI's Stronger Families for Stronger Community campaign. Comedians Steve Bjork and Mark Scalia along with rising star Chris Pennie will perform. The show will be hosted by local teacher, writer and comedian Michael Smith. Tickets are $35 and include hot and cold light appetizers and a cash bar. For more information or to purchase tickets call 978-373-1971.
