Baby Boomers and Beyond

The Recreation Department and Council on Aging have tickets to the Lowell Spinners game on Monday, July 30, at 7 p.m. What a wonderful opportunity for Haverhill senior citizens to spend quality time enjoying wholesome entertainment with their children, grandchildren and in some cases even great-grandchildren. Grandparents will receive a complimentary hot dog and soda from the Spinners. Transportation is not included. Contact Kathy or Rita at the COA, 978-374-2390, or kbresnahan@cityofhaverhill.com to obtain details.

The Council on Aging will host a presentation on scams and identity theft. The presentation will cover scams that are currently circulating in our communities, major red flags to watch for and precautionary steps we can all take to protect ourselves. Amy Schram of the Better Business Bureau will discuss this important topic at the Citizens Center, 10 Welcome St., on Thursday, June 21, at 10:30 a.m.. This event is open to the public.

COA painting and drawing students are showing their work at the Haverhill Library in an art exhibit on the second floor. Art will be on display at the Library through Wed, June 27.

The Council on Aging is offering an inter-generational trip to Boston for a Duck Tour. We will depart on the morning of July 12. Tickets are $63 per person. The trip includes a stop for lunch on your own at Quincy Market. This is a great trip for the grandchildren.

Our Book Club is reading "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" for the month of June. If anyone is interested in reading this book and joining the Council on Aging Book Club, just read the book and come to the book discussion meeting on Wednesday, July 11, at noon.

On Monday, June 25, at 10 a.m. at the Citizens Center, the Haverhill council is hosting a free Medicare discussion for recent retirees and baby boomers who are approaching 65. Participants will learn about applying for Medicare Part D coverage and many other aspects of applying for Medicare.
