Youth groups have walk to prevent child abuse

From April 14 to 21, a portion of the proceeds from all haircuts at any of the 50 Hair Cuttery salons throughout New England will benefit the fund. The salon in Haverhill is at 300 Main St. in the Walgreen’s plaza. Hair Cuttery supports several national and local causes, including Dress for Success, American Cancer Society, Special Olympics, Buzzing 4 Change, National Kidney Foundation, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and Locks of Love.

Free diabetes workshop: A free diabetes workshop with free nutritional assessments runs for six weeks on Tuesdays from April 14 to May 19 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Merrimack Valley Hospital, 140 Lincoln Ave.

Workshops are provided by Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley. Complimentary lunch is provided by the hospital. More information is available by calling 978-946-1260.

Life Long Learning talk is on Backyard Geology: Northern Essex Community College’s Life Long Learning Program will host Bill Hammond of Haverhill in a presentation on Backyard Geology on April 17 at 2 p.m. in the Hartleb Technology Center on the college’s Haverhill campus, 100 Elliott St.

Admission is $2. Hammond has been mining for rocks and crystals in New England for more than 30 years. He has also done extensive glacial geological research on Haverhill.

Foxwoods trip planned: The Council on Aging and Bethany Community Services are planning a trip to the Foxwoods Casino on April 22.

Bus picks up passengers in front of Merrivista at 6:15 a.m. and departs from 500 Primrose St. at 6:45 a.m. Cost of $35 includes deluxe motor coach transportation, full buffet lunch and slot play. The increase in price is due to the price of gas. Forty passengers are needed for this tour.
