Annual Haverhill Goes Green Fair is this month

It’s almost time to go green.

Plans are in the works for this year’s Haverhill Goes Green Environmental Fair on April 27 from noon to 4 p.m. in GAR Park.

Haverhill’s Brightside organization will host the annual event, which focuses on the environment and healthy living. Organizers welcome green business vendors, volunteers and viewers to this celebration.

Walk to prevent child abuse is April 19: The city’s youth organizations, Girls Inc., the YWCA and YMCA, the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Haverhill along with Haverhill High School’s Excel Club will come together on April 19 to support the Haverhill Exchange Club’s efforts to prevent and bring attention to child abuse.

The two-mile “There’s No Excuse for Child Abuse” walkathon begins and ends at GAR Park. Check in is at 9:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 10:15 a.m. Registration fee is $5. Premier sponsor is Align Credit Union. The 99 Restaurant & Pub in Haverhill will provide a free cookout for participants that will include hot-dogs, hamburgers and refreshments. Other sponsors are the Boys & Girls Club, ServPro of Haverhill, and the Haverhill School Department and Haverhill Police Department. Music is by DJ Ron Carpenito.

The first 150 people to register will receive a free backpack from Align Credit Union and a water bottle from the Boys & Girls Club. Checks may be made payable to the Haverhill Exchange Club, PO Box 543, Haverhill, MA 01831, attention Lise Zapatka. You can also register at the Boys & Girls Club, 55 Emerson St.

Hair Cuttery to support One Fund Boston: Hair Cuttery salons throughout New England, including the salon in Haverhill, will pay tribute to the victims and families affected by the Boston Marathon bombings with a fundraiser to benefit The One Fund Boston.
