Documentary in Lawrence: The Northern Essex Community College White Fund series will present a screening of “The Prep School Negro” on May 5 from 8:45 to 10 a.m., at Lawrence High School, 70-72 North Parish Road, Lawrence, and from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence, 136 Water St.
This documentary recounts the experience of director and producer Andre’ Robert Lee and current-day minority students in elite prep schools followed by a question-and-answer session with Lee. Trivia night on tap: The Haverhill Foundation for Excellence in Education (HFEE) will host its annual Trivia Night at Maria’s Galleria on May 10.
Check-in begins at 6:30 p.m. and the competition begins at 7 p.m. Entry fee is $25 per person. Teams of two to eight members are required to register and pay the entry fee in advance by visiting online at www.HaverhillEducationFoundation.org or by calling 978-697-5620 for a registration form. First prize is $300, second prize is $100, and third prize is $50. A special Haverhill round offers a $50 prize.
The last Trivia Night event raised nearly $4,000 to help support education in the Haverhill Public Schools. HFEE is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that supports programs and projects in the Haverhill Public Schools. The Haverhill High Model UN team, the Discovery Club after-school and summer program, the Robotics program as well as the annual District Parent Council Write Away Contest have received support from HFEE.
