Kid's Craft: The Library will host a workshop to make a Charlotte's Web notebook on Tuesday July 10 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Ages 5+ For more information or to register, contact Alissa Lauzon, 978-373-1586 x626.

LOCAL ACTIVITIES

Open house: The East Parish Meeting House Association will hold an open house for viewing the historic property July 7 and Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. to noon. For more information call Marion Bergman at 978-372-2652.

Youth Academy: The Essex County Sheriff's Department will host a Youth Academy for children ages 12 to 15 and a Junior Leadership Academy for children ages 8 to 11. Both programs are free and will be offered to communities in the region, including Haverhill, July 9 to 13; Lawrence, July 30 to Aug. 3, and Methuen, Aug. 20 to 24. While the Junior Leadership Academies in Beverly and Masconomet are full, enrollment is still open in all of the other academies. The program runs weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Children will tour the Essex County correctional facility, and will participate in Laser Quest, archery, the new ropes course at Essex Agricultural School, a fishing trip, a class with the Essex County District Attorney's Office, a K-9 demonstration, a cookout/graduation and more. Activities for the Junior Leadership Academy will include indoor rock climbing, Curious Creatures, a fishing trip, Jump On In, bowling, a K-9 demonstration, a cookout/graduation and more. Sheriff Frank G. Cousins Jr. and his staff are providing a program that gets young people off the streets for a week, and allows them to experience a fun, educational and safe program. A variety of agencies have partnered with the sheriff's office to provide this program. For more information including an application, schedule and photos visit mass.gov/essexsheriff/community.
