Judges to size up sauces at Italian Festival

Haverhill's annual Italian Festival will spice up the downtown on Sunday, Sept. 26, from noon to 4 p.m.

This year's celebration will take place primarily along the boardwalk behind the Tap restaurant and brew pub.

It is sponsored by the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce Community Support Committee in partnership with Trinity EMS.

The festival will include the annual Spaghetti Sauce Challenge, a contest in which individuals enter homemade sauce to see how it measures up with others in the area.

Meat and meatless sauces are welcome; however there is a limit of 20 meatless sauces and 20 sauces containing meat.

Early entries are encouraged and there is a fee of $2 to enter the contest.

The Challenge will take place at 1:30 p.m. during the Italian Festival. There will be a tasting by a panel of judges who will vote their favorite sauces, which are displayed and served anonymously.

To enter the Challenge, contact the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce at 978-373-5663 or e-mail brittny@haverhillchamber.com.
