Paintings of September artist displayed

Mayor James J. Fiorentini named Judith Larmay the city's September 2010 Artist of the Month. Five of Larmay's oil paintings are on display in the mayor's office this month. Larmay has been painting and creating art since the age of 9 and attended Massachusetts College of Art in the 1950s.

She received a Bachelor of Visual Arts/Creative Writing Degree from Bradford College following her time at MassArt. In 1978 she renewed her art career, and has not stopped writing, painting, teaching and selling her artwork since.

She also exhibits her work at the Bridge Gallery in Newburyport. More of Larmay's works can be seen on her website, larmayartstudio.com.

"One of my artistic goals is to re-introduce to the new millennium a Classical perception of perfected beauty and a spiritual reinstatement on hope and awe. It is my belief that significant art, whether ... visual or literary, must ultimately offer not only newness and skill, but also inspiration and soul. If my contributions bring the viewer or reader to a place of peaceful contemplation and calm delight, then I have achieved my personal goal as an artist." Said Fiorentini, "Judith Larmay's work brings a contemplative vitality to the mayor's office this month and I invite all to come and see her beautiful and very skilled paintings on display. Her subjects range from still life and nature to landscapes and flowers. Once again, I am amazed at the depth of artistic talent residing in our wonderful city." Haverhill artists interested in being considered for Artist of the Month can submit copies of their work and artist's statement to the mayor's office.
