Auction: St. James Episcopal Church in Groveland will host its Simple Gifts Auction May 20 at 11:15 a.m. The event includes a light lunch and auction items including a Kindle Fire, homemade lap quilt, five days at a Maine summer cottage, meals to order and more. The auction supports church activities and 10 percent of the proceeds will be given to the Barbara C. Harris Youth Camp. There are special items for kids to bid on (25 cents to $3) as well as a raffle for four Red Sox tickets ($5 each) and an iPod Nano ($1 each or six for $5). LOCAL ACTIVITIES

Dough-raiser: Career Resources Corp. will hold a "Dough-raiser" fundraiser May 10 at Uno Chicago Grill in Haverhill. If you order lunch or dinner and present your waiter or waitress with a coupon, Uno's will donate 15 to 20 percent of your total bill to Career Resources. This includes take-out orders as well. Members of the Career Resources staff will be at the restaurant to greet you, provide you with chances to win prizes and answer questions. Coupons are available for download at crc-mass.org.

Yard Sale: The Relay For Life Of Haverhill Team Yvette's River Runners will hold its fifth annual yard sale on Saturday, May 12, at 10 University Lane, Methuen (Off Pelham Street). Hundreds of items are donated every year by friends and family from Methuen, Andover and Lawrence and all money raised will benefit The American Cancer Society. Benefit Dinner: Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 471 Main St., Haverhill, will host a dinner May 12 to benefit Boy Scout Troop 1 and Cub Scout Pack 13 on May 12. The meal is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and includes American chop suey, salad, Italian bread, dessert, tea and coffee. A donation of $6 is requested. Children ages 12 and under pay $3. This event is sponsored by the church's Men of Wesley and the public is welcome. For more information call 603-702-0512.
