Public Library to 'geek out'

Haverhill Public Library will focus this October on comic books, Lightsabers, 20-sided dice and other unusual items.

The library's "Haverhill Reads!" program will feature one book for the month as the focus of discussion and reading for the entire community. In October, the book will be "Fantasy Freaks and Gaming Geeks'' by Ethan Gilsdorf, an exploration of coming to terms with maturity in the cultures of video games, Star Trek and Tolkien.

Library patrons can meet the author during a free book discussion on Oct. 22 at the library's Johnson Auditorium, 99 Main St., from 3 to 4:45 p.m. Patrons are also encouraged to pick up their own copy of the book.

Other events planned include a discussion of graphic novels, a retro video game trivia challenge and a European board game afternoon.
