Christmas Sing-a-Long planned: A Christmas Celebration Sing-a-Long will be held at the Citizens Center, 10 Welcome St., on Dec. 16 at 11:30 a.m.

Join the Council on Aging as it celebrates the holiday season with complimentary hot chocolate and cookies. Pianist Helen Hamilton will accompany a session featuring favorite Christmas carols.

Happenings at the library: Get Lit, a book group for 20 and 30 somethings at the public library, will hold its monthly meeting on Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.

Deirdre Budzyna, instructor at Northern Essex Community College, will present “It’s Not How Smart You Are; It’s How You Are Smart” on Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. in the library’s Milhendler Room. This program is designed to help you identify the ways in which you can succeed based on the best part of your intelligence. Using the theory of multiple intelligences, Deirdre will help you to find yours and build on it. Please register online. This program is presented through the NECC Speakers Bureau.

An exclusive screening of Haverhill native Lance Malbon’s film “Black Margiolds” will be Dec. 30 at 6:45 p.m. Included is a question-and-answer session with Malbon. This film has been included in the Cincinnati and Boston International Film Festivals. Please register online. Space is limited.

The library is showing a classic film every Tuesday morning this month. Stop by at 11 a.m. for movies on the big screen. See the library’s online events calendar for movie titles. Children are encouraged to stop in for an Early Christmas at the library on Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. A celebration of Christmas stories and fun is in the children’s program room. The Youth Services Staff is also hosting a variety of book clubs, story hours, and toddler activities throughout the month. See the online events calendar for specific dates, times and registration.

Church hosts holiday music performance: The Boston Camerata will perform “Noël, Noël: A French Christmas” on Dec. 21 at 8 p.m. at First Parish Church, 20 High Road (Route 1A), Newbury.
