Baby Boomers & Beyond

The Haverhill Council on Aging is an untapped resource for many of Haverhill's baby boomers and seniors. This column will allow us to let you know exactly what is going on at the Citizen Center and tell you about the trips and activities we are planning for you.
We welcome your suggestions and look forward to meeting the many recent retirees and baby boomers who have not yet had the opportunity to introduce themselves to us.
Rita LaBella and I are the activities coordinators at the center, and we are available Mondays through Thursdays.
I encourage all readers to stop by the Citizen Center at 10 Welcome St. We would love to meet you and discuss ideas for new programs, classes, and social events. We are always open to suggestions. We can also be reached at 978-374-2390 or by e-mail at kbresnahan@cityofhaverhill or rlabella@cityofhaverhill.com.
This fall we are introducing a new Zumba Gold class, which will meet on Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. in the Recreation Hall at the Citizen Center. Classes will be led by Certified Zumba Gold instructor Stephanie Smith. Cost for this class is $5 per session. Classes begin on Sep. 2. These energizing classes are perfect for the Baby Boomer set and active seniors.
We would like to offer a writers workshop this fall also, and are seeking qualified instructors or writers to lead the group. We have some wonderful poets and writers at the center, and we would like to re-establish this group. We are also hoping to start a drama group. If you have an interest in either leading or joining a writing group or joining a drama group, please contact us.
The Citizen Center offers yoga, tai chi, bridge, chess club, 45s tournaments, whist, art, mahjong, ESL classes, citizenship classes, conversational Spanish classes, woodcarving, bingo, and so much more. Visit the COA section on the City of Haverhill website, to learn what is happening. We look forward to meeting you soon.
