Auction: St. James Episcopal Church in Groveland will host its Simple Gifts Auction May 20 at 11:15 a.m. The event includes a light lunch and auction items including a Kindle Fire, homemade lap quilt, five days at a Maine summer cottage, meals to order and more. The auction supports church activities and 10 percent of the proceeds will be given to the Barbara C. Harris Youth Camp. There are special items for kids to bid on (25 cents to $3) as well as a raffle for four Red Sox tickets ($5 each) and an iPod Nano ($1 each or six for $5). Soap Box Derby: The Pentucket Kiwanis Club is looking for students ages 8 to 13 to participate in its annual Soap Box Derby, to be held June 2 at Bradford Elementary School, 116 Montvale St. Check in is at 9 a.m., and parents or guardians must accompany each team member. Practice runs are from 10 to 11 a.m. The race starts at 11 a.m. The awards ceremony is at 2 p.m. There is a $5 refundable registration fee per team member and one member of each team must weigh under 85 pounds. There will be food, prizes and raffles. Money raised supports local programs such as the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Haverhill, Community Action Inc. and scholarships. Art Exhibit: The Haverhill Public Library will hold an exhibit by local artist Allen Drelick through May 30. Allen will exhibit photos of his original works in acrylic, along with a collection of original pieces. This exhibit can be seen in the 2nd floor gallery during regular library hours: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A reception is planned for Tuesday, May 8, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
