Scully outlines plan in case of school cancellation

Due to the impending snow storm scheduled to hit Haverhill tomorrow afternoon, Superintendent Jim Scully has issued a statement describing his plan in case of a district-wide cancellation or an early release.

Haverhill is forecasted to receive four to six inches tomorrow afternoon and into the evening, with continued snowfall into the day Wednesday. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning from 6 a.m. Tuesday to 1 a.m. Thursday.

A winter storm warning is issued when an average of six or more inches of snow will fall within a 12-hour period, or an average of eight inches within a 24-hour period.

Over the next 36 hours, the National Weather Service is forecasting the area receives 18 to 24 inches of fresh snowfall.

Scully's statement reads:

This is Jim Scully, Superintendent of Schools.

This message is an effort to keep you informed of the impending winter storm. In the event there is no school tomorrow, you will be notified at 5:50 a.m. In the event weather permits us to open school, and we are forced to dismiss early, at 9:30 a.m. we will issue an AlertNow.

We will dismiss according to the following schedule: Haverhill High School at 10:30 a.m., parochial schools at 10:50 a.m., middle schools and Bradford Elementary at 11:00 a.m., elementary schools, the Moody School and HALT at 11:30 a.m. and TEACH at 12:00 p.m.

Thank you for your understanding and support. Again at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, if there is to be an early dismissal, you will be so notified.

Sincerely, Jim Scully
