Special to The Haverhill Gazette
—
An exciting magazine is about to make its debut.
MVB, published by North of Boston Media Group, will launch in October, exclusively for the businesspeople who work, live and play in the Valley region of Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire.
Publisher Al Getler is excited by this new addition to the North of Boston Media portfolio, which includes The Haverhill Gazette and its variety of newspaper and magazine sister publications.
"I think there is a void in the coverage of Merrimack Valley and Southern New Hampshire businesses," said Getler, publisher of The Haverhill Gazette. "The Boston media covers Boston and Boston area companies. There is very little covered here in our own vital region."
Part of that void, Getler believes, is the way that other local media outlets cover business.
"There isn't a lot of discussion about work-life in our area," he said. "A lot of people who work right here also live right here, and that needs to be covered."
MVB, dedicated to local business leaders with a taste for the finer things in life, will be unique among business publications in its focus and editorial viewpoint.
"It's not just a magazine about where you work and what you do while there, but also about how local movers and shakers live and play in their downtime," said MVB Editor-in-Chief Tracey Rauh. "Readers can expect hard-hitting news stories, trend pieces and fun lifestyle articles. MVB will be unlike any business publication you have ever seen."
The magazine, Getler promised, won't be laden with press releases or property purchases. Rather, MVB is about the people who make things happen.
"It's definitely a business-focused publication," he said. "But it's one with a flair for what people do before work, after work and during work."
He said MVB will be a perfect outlet for advertising, with the goal of reaching business owners and executives, as well as the people who work on their teams.
"Advertisers will reach people who work, eat, drink, shop, play and just basically have fun in the Merrimack Valley and Southern New Hampshire," Getler said. "It's a magazine made for everyone to connect."
The launch comes on the heels of several publishing successes for North of Boston Media, including The Andovers and Cape Ann, award-winning glossy magazines aimed at some of the wealthiest residents in the state.
"We have learned from the readers of our other magazines, like The Andovers and Cape Ann, that there is a voracious appetite for a high-end glossy publication," Rauh said. "We think MVB will fulfill the same role for yet another hungry audience here."
MVB launches in October with a "40 Under 40" edition, to celebrate the up-and-coming successful people in our communities.
"We are doing '40 Under 40' because there are so many young, bright people in businesses and nonprofits who are in a leadership position or will soon be in a leadership position," Getler said. "We want to honor those people who are at the top in their chosen field."
In the premiere edition, readers will discover what makes these young entrepreneurs tick — how they work, play and live. They will also learn about the sort of local business tools, trends and tips that will position them for success in their own careers.
"This is the perfect contest to launch the magazine," Rauh said. "It says so much about our community, but also the way we view the magazine and its editorial voice. I can't wait to see it in print."
