Northern Essex Community College's Isabelle Gagne, a professor in the behavioral sciences department, was recognized as an e-learning pioneer at the sixth annual Massachusetts College Online E-Learning Conference, held this year at Framingham State College.
A professor at NECC since 2003, her course, "Developmental Psychology I," was selected from more than 1,700 courses offered through MCO, an educational consortium of nine states and 15 community colleges in the Commonwealth.
The course received an MCO Course of Distinction award.
Alan Foucault, NECC's dean of institutional technology, said he wasn't surprised that Gagne's class took home the award.
"(Gagne's class is) a strong, thorough, challenging, demanding, well-detailed course, filled with multiple learning activities to assure success for the student," he said. "(The course has) self-help videos and power point presentations with visually and aesthetically pleasing formatting from the home page to lecture materials."
Developmental Psychology I is a three-credit class and focuses on human development from conception to adolescence.
Gagne, who is fluent in English, French and Spanish, holds a psychology degree from the Université© de Montreal and a master's degree in psychology from the Université© de Sherwood.
