Merrimack Valley Hospital has named registered nurse Audrey McGlew its clinical coordinator in the Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center.
McGlew was born in Haverhill and lived in the city for 20 years. Shortly after her marriage, she and her husband built a home in Groveland where they have lived ever since.
The McGlews have two daughters, ages 17 and 19. She was active in Girl Scouts and taught CCD at St. Patrick's Church for eight years.
McGlew worked in the high-tech industry, then operated a videography business with her husband while she stayed at home with their children.
When she became a mother she realized she wanted to be a nurse. In 2000 — when she thought her family was ready — she attended Northern Essex Community College and graduated second in her class in the Associate Degree Registered Nursing Program.
Following graduation, McGlew worked per diem at Merrimack Valley Hospital and in a physician's office. She also has over four years of nursing experience in an area wound-care center.
When she heard Merrimack Valley Hospital was opening a Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center she applied and soon became the full-time clinical coordinator.
McGlew said she likes that in wound care she sees the same patients for an extended period. She finds the work rewarding.
"Our patients have had life-changing experiences. Some can't walk or be mobile. The best part is seeing them make progress and get back to their standard of life. The bittersweet irony is that after they have healed, we don't see them as much anymore."
