Old Sturbridge Village summer 2008 activities
Stagecoach Days May 24 through 26. Learn about travel in the 19th century, see the grand roll-out of the new Old Sturbridge Village stagecoach and take a ride on the stagecoach. Take a riverboat ride on the Quinebaug River, and hear the songs and stories of travelers from the 1830s throughout the day.
Planting the Vegetable Garden on June 1 at 10 a.m. in the Freemen Farm kitchen garden. Participants will receive historical gardening advice for planting root vegetables, beans and squashes.

Wool Days: See how wool is processed from sheep to the loom on June 14 and 15. Watch as costumed interpreters shear, scour, card, spin and weave the wool. Knitting with handspun yarns will also be featured. Visitors can try their hands at carding, weaving and more.
Plants with a Purpose: Join us for a tour of gardens in the Center Village on June 15 at 10 a.m. at the Parsonage Garden. Explore some of the "multitasking" plants and learn about their various uses.
Modern-day Plantings for a Historical Museum: Join OSV horticulturists for a tour of the modern gardens on June 22 at 10 a.m. Learn the whys and hows of designing gardens for public viewing. Glean basic gardening advice from this tour to take home and use in your own landscape.
Discovery Camp: Discovery Camp allows children to enjoy five days of fresh air and fun. Dress in 1830s costume and explore the past through hands-on history. Children 8-17 will have an unforgettable summer experience while indulging their curiosity and venturing into another world. Camp dates are: June 23 through 27; June 30 through July 4; July 7 through 11; July 14 through 18; July 21 through 25; July 28 through Aug. 1; Aug. 4 through 8; and Aug. 11 through 15. Native Plants: Join us in the Herb Garden on June 29 at 10 a.m. and become acquainted with some of the herbs esteemed for their qualities in the 19th century and before the beginnings of this country.
Independence Day celebration: Celebrate the nation's birth in traditional and grand fashion on July 4. Redcoats to Rebels: The country's largest Revolutionary War re-enactments on Aug. 2 and 3. See what life was really like for those who fought to win and preserve America's freedoms. Watch the battle re-enactment, enjoy fife and drum corps performances, and watch encampment cooking, firearm and cannon demonstrations, a military fashion show, and much more.
Twilight Encampment: Visitors can stay at the village to enjoy the Twilight Encampment on Aug. 2, extending their experience to the everyday activities of soldiers throughout America's history. Witness the activities of the soldiers away from the heat of battle, and mingle with the soldiers around the campfires. Village admission includes extended stay through 8 p.m.

Jacob's Pillow dance festival will run from Saturday, June 14, through Sunday, Aug. 24. BOAT CAMP
Building Ocean Awareness Through Children, Adults and Marine Education Professionals is now accepting registrations for its spring and summer programs.
Day camp aboard the Erica Lee allows children to spend a week or more on the 42-foot boat studying marine ecology, nautical history and the geography of the Merrimack River and nearby waters. Activities include traveling to the Isles of Shoals, hiking on Thachers Island, exploring marine life gathered with an otter net, gathering lobster traps and fishing for a variety of species. Children ages 12 and older can earn a boating safety certificate through a course taught with the Massachusetts Environmental Police. Six one-week sessions cost $425 each. Days run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
After-school program on Thursday afternoons on May 22 and 29, and June 5, 12 and 19. Cost is $25 per day. Activities in the day camp are done on a smaller scale in the after-school program.
"Water Planet Young Scientist Program" is a weeklong morning program aboard the Yankee Clipper, where students get to learn about marine ecology and how pollution travels through the water. Two sessions, one starting Aug. 11 and the other Aug. 18.

Boston Early Music Festival 2008-09 concert series
