Engagement: McCann-Black

— Bernard and Jean McCann of Haverhill are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer McCann, to Matthew Black, son of Michael and Roberta Black of Oak Harbor, Wash.

Jennifer is a graduate of Haverhill High School. She received a bachelor's degree in political science from St.Anselm College. She is a graduate student at Brown University, in Providence R.I., working toward a Masters of Arts degree in teaching.

Matthew is a graduate of Oak Harbor High School. He received a bachelor's degree in political science/economics/journalism from Western Washington University. He is a special education teaching assistant at Paul Cuffee Charter School in Providence, R.I.

Jennifer and Matthew met while volunteering after college with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. Jennifer was placed in Camden, N.J., and Matthew was in Philadelphia and not even the $3 toll over the bridge from New Jersey to Pennsylvania could keep them apart.

An August 2008 wedding is planned.
