Heating assistance: Community Action Inc. will receive over $1.5 million in federal, state and local grants to help low-income families pay their heating bills between now and Wed., April 30. Communities served include Haverhill, Amesbury, Newburyport, Groveland, Merrimac, Boxford, Georgetown, West Newbury, Newbury, Salisbury and Rowley. Residents whose heat is included in their rent may qualify for a 30 percent payment of their monthly rent from November to April. Haverhill residents may qualify for an additional grant of up to $300 once their federal funds are exhausted. Participants also qualify for utility discounts up to 20 percent if they are customers of KeySpan Energy Delivery, National Grid and Verizon.
