Store donates 750 books to school

The shelves of the Hill View Montessori School Library will bend under the weight of hundreds of additional books donated by Used Book Superstore.

The Used Book Superstore has donated 750 books to the school's volunteer-run library as part of their ongoing "Got Books Great Book Giveaway." In addition, the company give away $15 gift certificates to each of 40 teachers employed at Hill View under their "Books for Teachers" giveaway.

"The donation totally helped round out our fiction section," Romy Gaiero, volunteer director of the Hill View Library, said.

Besides enjoying the books, Hill View students were on hand to start shelving the donated books. Last summer, students and their families assisted Hill View staff members by painting the library.

Katie Lynch, 12, who was on hand to start shelving the donated books, assists in the library through the school week.

"I know all the books from when I was little, and it's fun to look back," she said.

Diane McDermott, spokesperson for Used Book Superstore, said the company's two donation programs give away more than 11,000 books and $54,000 worth of store credit to teachers per year.

"It's very exciting to be able to give something back to the community," she said.

Used Book Superstore operates five stores in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
