Thanks for the Memories: Do you recognize this building?

Last week's memory

If you think you recognize this building, write your guess on a post card and mail it to Thanks for the Memories, Haverhill Gazette, Post Office Box 991, Haverhill MA 01831.

If you prefer, and have the right equipment, send your guess by e-mail to hgreporter@hgazette.com, or just drop it off at the office of The Gazette at 181 Merrimack St.

Last week's photo was of the building known first as the Daggett Building, but in its final years it was called the Grad Building, owned by Vinson Grad and housing his women's clothing store, at Merrimack and Pecker streets.

It also housed many offices before it was razed in the Urban Renewal program. That resulted in many professional persons, like Attorney Paul Kazarosian, moving to other parts of the city, away from downtown.

He took over a Main Street building that was built as a residence.

The downtown building suffered heavy damage in a fire before it was razed.

Correct answers came from Jim Murphy, Bill Boisselle (from Alabama), and Christine Cortes Penn (from Indiana).

If you have any pictures that might be of interest or awaken memories, send them to Barney Gallagher at the above address.
