Where's Quacky contest: The Haverhill Rotary Club is holding a "Where’s Quacky?" contest as part of its fifth-annual Haverhill Rotary Rubber Duck Regatta, to be held Sept. 7 in conjunction with Team Haverhill's downtown River Ruckus festival.
From time to time, Rotary will post photos of Quacky in various locations around Haverhill on its Haverhill Rotary Rubber Duck Regatta Facebook page. The first person to accurately guess Quacky’s location will win a free duck adoption. The best way to participate is to “like” the page and then watch your Facebook timeline closely.
International Labor Poster Exhibit: The public library is hosting an International Labor Poster Exhibit by Stephen Lewis, SEIU Local 509, throughout the month.
Lewis is a long-time activist in the labor movement. Organizations in many countries use posters as a way to communicate ideas and messages to their audience. Posters sometimes use mainly the written word to communicate a message. Other times they rely on creative art to communicate the idea. It is an art form that is easily accessible to many people.
The posters in this exhibit reflect various ways that unions have tried to use art to minimize the risks to workers. Some of the posters are simple messages about how to safely carry out a procedure, while others communicate a political message about how to create a safer work environment.
