Spring sports season looking rosy for Hillies

The Hillie student-athletes must have had a good vacation week as they came back revitalized and obviously ready to play. On the first day back, the Haverhill teams went a perfect 5-0 with boys and girls tennis, baseball, girls lacrosse and volleyball all winning games. The Hillies had similar success at the end of last week, going 5-2 in Friday’s contests.

Lacrosse teams on a roll

The girls lacrosse team won three of its last four games to improve to 5-3. The Hillies downed Greater Lowell last Monday before picking up a 21-12 MVC win over Dracut on Friday. The boys lacrosse team reeled off three straight wins, including a pair of league victories over Lowell and Dracut. The Hillies will host Central Catholic on Friday at Trinity Stadium.

Hillie ballplayers to face league leader Billerica

The baseball team also won three straight games, defeating Andover, Lawrence and Dracut to even the season mark at 4-4. The Hillies have an important match-up at league leader Billerica on Friday. The softball team’s first win of the year was one of the best for the program over the past two years. The Hillies edged Tewksbury 2-1, handing them the first-place Redmen their first loss of the season. Haverhill will host Lawrence on Friday afternoon at Riverside Park.

Tennis teams gaining momentum

The most successful of the Hillie teams thus far has been the girls tennis team. The Hillies downed Billerica 5-0 on Friday to improve to 6-2. They will travel to Tewksbury on Friday afternoon. The boys tennis team picked up a big win over Lawrence, defeating the Lancers 3-2 last Monday. They will travel to Chelmsford on Friday and return home on Monday to host Triton.

Hillie volleyball team takes three straight

The volleyball team is another Hillie team that recently won three in a row. In the middle of that mini-streak was a win over rival Central Catholic. After dropping the first game of the match, the Hillies rallied to win 3-1. The Hillies carry a 6-4 mark into the second half of the season and host Lowell on Friday evening.
