History made over the weekend

Hillie girls hockey team makes history

The first ever Haverhill girls hockey game was played when the Hillies traveled to face Wayland-Weston on Saturday afternoon. And the Hillies won! Haverhill came away with a convincing 4-1 victory in its debut. Haverhill is the host school for this cooperative team that is comprised of student-athletes from North Andover and Pentucket. The inaugural season continues this weekend when the squad travels to Waltham for a 6 p.m. game on Saturday.

Annual Christmas Tournament on tap

The boys hockey team dropped its opener at Tewksbury over the weekend. The Hillies will host the annual Haverhill Christmas Tournament on Dec. 23, 26, 27 and 28. Tournament participants include Amesbury, East Longmeadow, Masconomet, North Andover, Shawsheen Valley, Stoneham and Wilmington.

Winter sports get into full swing-

The remaining winter sports will get into full swing this week. The boys basketball team has an exciting home opener on Thursday night. The Hillies will host state power Central Catholic at 7 p.m. Haverhill is the defending MVC Division II Champion. The girls basketball team will be at Central Catholic on Thursday and then will be off until they participate in the Epping (N.H.) Holiday Tournament.

The boys swimming team will be on the road on Thursday to take on Central Catholic in their season opener. Both indoor track teams also open up on Thursday when they face Lowell. The wrestling team will host Pentucket at 10 a.m. on Dec. 24 before participating in the Lowell Holiday Tournament on Dec. 29 and 30.

New online registration system available

There is a new online registration system available. Please visit www.hillies.org and click on “Athletics.” Student-athletes who participated in a fall sport do not need to fill out another registration form but must submit the appropriate user fee and updated physical if needed.

Winter sports schedules available online

All Haverhill High School winter sports schedules are available online. A link to the schedules can also be accessed through www.hillies.org. Hillie fans can print custom schedules, sign up for email alerts, get directions to away facilities and much more.
