Northern Essex Community College has announced the formation of a committee to guide the search for a new president to replace President David F. Hartleb, who announced in June that he will retire in June of 2011 after leading the college for 15 years.
The Presidential Search Committee will be responsible for developing a pool of candidates and recommending finalists to the Northern Essex Board of Trustees, which will select one candidate for final approval by the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education.
According to Joseph Edwards, chairman of the board of trustees, the committee will include 19 voting members: three trustees, eight faculty and staff members, one alumni representative, three community representatives, two volunteer board leaders, and two students. There will also be nonvoting members, including Mary Chatigny, who is the college's affirmative action officer, and possibly a representative from the Board of Higher Education.
William Moynihan, vice chairman of the board of trustees, will be chairman of the search committee and Mary Ellen Ashley, executive vice president of the college, will serve as vice chairwoman.
"There's nothing more important than deciding who will be the next president of this college," Edwards said. "We have an excellent committee in place, with close ties to the college and the community, and I'm confident we will find outstanding candidates in our national search."
The college will partner with a search consulting firm in selecting a new president. These are the members of the Presidential Search Committee:
