:Editor’s note: The Haverhill Council on Aging contributes this regular column to the Gazette.

:Lowell Spinners tickets available: The Recreation Department and Council on Aging have tickets to the Lowell Spinners game on July 23 at 7 p.m. This is an opportunity for senior citizens to spend quality time enjoying wholesome entertainment with their children, grandchildren and in some cases even great-grandchildren. Grandparents will receive a complimentary hot dog and soda from the Spinners. Transportation is not included.

:Prostate cancer information program: Steward Health Systems will facilitate a Prostate Cancer Information Program & Support Group on July 8 at 6 p.m. at the Citizens Center, 10 Welcome St. Come find out about the latest measures to prevent prostate cancer. Please call Contact Betty Burnell at 978-374-2390, ext. 10, to reserve a seat.

:Health activities offered by Council on Aging: A Shingles Vaccination Information Session will be presented by Walgreens Pharmacy July 11 at 10 a.m. Indications for vaccination and insurance coverage will be discussed. The YWCA of Haverhill will present A Domestic Violence Workshop at the Citizens Center, 10 Welcome St., on June 28 at 10:30 a.m. This discussion will include safety and relationships as well as services provided by the YWCA. To reserve space for any of these activities contact Mary Connolly, RN, Community Health Coordinator, at 978-374-2390, ext 15.

:Diabetes workshop offered: Home Health VNA will offer a six-week diabetes education workshop now through July 30. Sessions will be held from 11 a.m. to noon at the Citizens Center, 10 Welcome St. Karen DiPietro, a certified diabetes educator, will facilitate the group. The program will be provided in groups, but each person will receive on individual session. All sessions are covered by Medicare. Topics include healthy eating, being active, blood sugar monitoring, medications, problem solving, reducing complications and health coping with diabetes. Please contact Mary Connolly, RN, at the Haverhill Council on Aging 979-374-2390, ext. 15, to register.
