Celebrating the Sox: As the Red Sox worked their way toward the World Series, some local students reaped a special benefit. St. Joseph School relaxed its uniform rule one day recently, allowing kids to wear jeans, sneakers and a red t-shirt or a Red Sox shirt, and also a Sox cap. But to participate, the students had to be true to their Sox. Shirts from no other teams were allowed.
Showcasing the city: For the past three years, part of Comcast’s annual sponsorship of the Merrimack Valley Economic Development Council has taken the form of a video promoting the Merrimack Valley. In 2011, the video focused on the Revitalization of Osgood Landing in North Andover. Last year’s video, “Lowell: Portrait of a Creative City,” was nominated for a New England Emmy Award. This year’s video is titled “Haverhill: 21st Century Renaissance,’’ and showcases the impressive rebirth of an historic community and its success in attracting new businesses and new residents. All of the videos can be viewed online at www.merrimackvalley.info.
