Those wondering about the whereabouts of City Councilor Sven Amirian, who missed last week's council meeting and vote on the city budget, can wonder no more. Amirian, who recently announced he plans to give up his seat on the council in July to become president of the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce, was vacationing in Florida with his family last week.
The Lamplighter is glad the old Haverhill Gazette building will have a new tenant. The Whistling Kettle restaurant is moving from Amesbury into the building and become Costello's Restaurant. It will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. It will open this fall.
It was great to see pride in America during the Fourth of July. When the Lamplighter took a ride down 18th Avenue and Burke Street, all the American flags hanging from houses was an impressive sight.
One Haverhill driver was clearly not aware of the Police Department's motorcycles. After the driver committed a violation, he barely noticed the flashing lights behind him. It took several moments before he realized he was being pulled over.
The traffic pattern at Lafayette Square was changed a few years ago, but some drivers are still confused when going through that intersection. It just seems there are just too many roads converging.
