March conference to focus on economic growth: Northern Essex Community College, with the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce and the Haverhill Horizons Hardware Challenge, will host the Open Innovation Conference 2013 March 20 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. in the Hartleb Technology Center on NECC’s Haverhill campus, 100 Elliott St. This conference is designed to unite Merrimack Valley partners, including entrepreneurs and startups, students and universities, government leaders, investors, and established companies. Business, community, and educational leaders are encouraged to attend the conference, which will initiate the development of an open innovation cluster in the Merrimack Valley. The program will include panel discussions on business practices and tools needed for open innovation as well as two-minute overviews from each of the six finalists in the Haverhill Hardware Horizons Challenge on their innovative products. Church to hold craft fair: Riverside Memorial Church, 278 Groveland St., will hold its fourth annual Spring Fling Craft Fair March 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Event organizers are seeking crafters to participate in this event. The fee is $30 for a 3-by-6-foot table with chairs. All proceeds support the Riverside Memorial missions fund. Space is limited and the church ran out of tables last year.

Cabaret dinner theater on tap: Spotlight Playhouse will present “Broadway on Essex,” a Cabaret Dinner Theater, March 23 at 6:15 p.m. at the Galleria at Maria’s Restaurant, 83-85 Essex St. The show features a cast from theater houses across the state singing Broadway favorites both old and new, including pieces from “Oklahoma,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Chicago,” “Wicked” and “Cabaret.’’ Tickets, $35 each, include dinner, coffee, tea and a homemade dessert buffet during intermission.
