This week may have been all about Hillie Pride, but the past few days were ones for the record books at Whittier Vo-Tech. The Wildcats boys basketball team swept its opponents, winning four games in five days. And junior Danielle Martin scored her 1,000th career point when the Wildcat girls defeated Northeast on Monday, Feb. 1.

Haverhill has presidential ambitions. Well, ambitions for presidential visits anyway. Mayor James Fiorentini has invited President Barack Obama to visit Haverhill to see where his ancestor, Richard Singletary, came from 10 generations back. This is the Richard Singletary that Obama and U.S. Sen.-elect Scott Brown share, making them eighth cousins. And at Girls Inc., the members have asked first lady Michelle Obama to visit them and to consider joining the Girls Inc. national board of directors as an honorary member. Perhaps the girls' invitation will be the clincher, and the first couple can travel to Haverhill together.

Have a bone to pick with some of decisions that created this year's Grammy Award winners? Don't blame local musician EJ Ouellette. His was just one vote out of thousands. Yes, Haverhill musician Ouellette was invited to cast ballots in this year's contest. He was recently named a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and as such attended the ceremony and walked the red carpet. The Lamplighter didn't notice him being pulled aside for an interview with Ryan Seacrest, however.

The Lamplighter sends anniversary wishes to the Lithuanian Gedymino Club, which observes its 100th year in the city. Anniversary activities include a roast beef and stuffed chicken dinner at DiBurro's, with live music and a performance by the Lithuanian Dancers of Boston. Call the club at 978-372-7214 to inquire about tickets.

The Lamplighter thanks the students and staff at Sacred Hearts School, who dropped off cookies and snacks on Monday for the downtown office of The Haverhill Gazette and Eagle-Tribune. The treats were part of the school's celebration of Catholic Schools Week. On Wednesday evening, parents were to test their knowledge in a game show fashioned after "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?" The Lamplighter will be curious to learn the results.

Believe it or not, Passover and Easter are just around the corner. The Lamplighter was shocked to take a look at the calendar to notice that Ash Wednesday is on Feb. 17, making Easter fall on April 4.
