Winter party for seniors: Northern Essex Community College’s Life Long Learning will hold a “Beat the Winter Blues Party on Thursday, Jan. 17 at noon in the Hartleb Technology Center on the Haverhill campus. Lunch and entertainment by Larry Lee Lewis will lift spirits during the winter months. Haverhill Senior Baseball sign ups: Haverhill Senior Baseball will hold sign ups for anyone in the Haverhill area on Jan. 19, Feb. 9, and March 2, 9, and 16, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Haverhill YMCA, 81 Winter St. The league has divisions for players age 13 and players ages 14 to 15. All home games will be played on a regulation 90-foot diamond on the JV Field behind Trinity Stadium. Donate to Skate event: The Ice Skating Academy will hold a “Donate To Skate” event on Monday, Jan. 21, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Veteran’s Memorial Skating Rink, located behind Haverhill High School. This event will be a free skate for the public and is being held in recognition of National Ice Skating Month, which is observed across the nation during the month of January. The Ice Skating Academy will also be honoring Martin Luther King Jr. that day. The theme for this event is Making Dreams Come True. Admission is a suggested donation of a non-perishable food item to be donated to Somebody Cares New England. This two hour session for a free community skate will include free ice rentals provided by the city, courtesy of Vincent Ouelette, recreation director, a disc jockey and free snacks donated by The Ice Skating Academy as well as free instruction by ISA professionals, directed by Jill Pignatiello. The Ice Skating Academy is a sanctioned U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills & Hockey Skills Program that teaches all disciplines of ice skating starting at age 3 through adults of all ages.
