Blase Distefano held onto first place when it handed Malcolm Insurance its fourth loss in a row. Brayden Dorr and Jared Libby each scored a goal in the first period for Blase Distefano. Jason Juma scored his first goal of the season in the second period, but it wasn’t enough. Malcolm Insurance still gets an “A+” for team spirit, motivation, and bringing enthusiastic energy to the game.
Twomey & Legare Contracting’s three-game winning streak came to an end when it went up against Messinger Chiropractic. Jason Mckeon scored his second goal of the game early in the third period for Messinger Chiropractic. Sam Powell scored a goal later in the third period for Twomey & Legare Contracting, but it wasn’t enough to send the game into overtime.
Major League Basketball
High Street Market managed to maintain its undefeated record against JDR’s Auto/ Welding & Towing. Navin Cruz scored a season-high 26 points for High Street Market, but also kept the ball moving to his teammates. Brendyn Downer scored 21 points and Elias Tavares scored 18 points for High Street Market. Ken Plante also scored a season-high 29 points in the showdown for JDR’s Auto/ Welding & Towing, but it wasn’t enough to end the streak. The final score was High Street Market 67 and JDR’s Auto/ Welding & Towing 56. Destiny’s Spanish Market had a chance to end its three-game losing streak against Early Contractors, but came up short. Eduardo Gonzales and Nicholas Goudreault each scored 16 points for Early Contractors.
Olivia Dulang was named Athlete of The Week, scoring a season-high 12 points and providing great defense for Early Contractors to start the new year. Daniel Smith scored a season- and team-high 12 points for Destiny’s Spanish Market. The score was 60-41. Early Contractors took the win and has a 2-2 record.
Calvin Pruet and William Holloran each scored a goal for Arty’s Roast Beef against Rice & Brouillard Electric. Tyler Rice scored the only goal in the second period for Rice & Brouillard, which tied the game 1-1, but William Holloran’s goal in the third period secured a three-game winning streak for Arty’s Roast Beef, leaving Rice & Brouillard Electric tied for third place.
American Resource Staffing beat Javier’s Market 5-0. Tommy Legare scored two goals in the first period, followed by Damian Fry’s first goal of the season in the first period. Jordyne Deveau and Adriano Andrade also scored their first goals of the season in the third period for American Resource Staffing.
Javien Sapienza and Jacob Donoghue each scored one goal for Fantini Bakery, which took the victory over Stymies Pizza, leaving Fantini Bakery tied for second place. Adrian Isabel performed well in goal with the shutout for Fantini Bakery. Javier’s Market walked away with their third consecutive loss.
Minor League Basketball
The Common 1854 finally ended its losing streak by beating Shoe City Hardware. Samuel Powell and Jason Mckeon both performed great offensively. Jason scored 10 points and Samuel scored 16 for The Common 1854. Shoe City Hardware is now tied for second place with a 2-2 record.
First-place team Jacqueline’s Grocery Store continued its winning streak against Fireside Restaurant & Pub, which is tied for second place with Shoe City Hardware. Cristian Ovalles lead Jacqueline’s Grocery Store with 28 points and had a big buzzer beater with 1.9 seconds left to get the victory. Nazair Debrao scored 24 points, but it wasn’t enough.
Early Contractors took the victory over Richdale Convenience Store by 10 points. It was a close game into the fourth quarter. Addiel Reyes scored 6 points with two big 3-pointers in the fourth quarter for Richdale Convenience Store, but it wasn’t enough for the win. Tyresse Gutierrez scored 7 points, but made a big 3-point play in the fourth quarter that secured the win for Early Contractors.
