Teams have showdowns in basketball, floor hockey

---- — Minor League Floor Hockey, Week 8

American Resource Staffing took the win over Javier’s Market by one goal. Tommy Legare scored the only goal of the game for American Resource Staffing in the first period. Javier’s Market continued its losing streak, and has a 0-8 record. American Resource Staffing has a 4-4 record.

Rice & Brouillard Electric demonstrated great offense in the win over first-place team Arty’s Roast Beef. Ryan Wentworth scored the first goal for Rice & Brouillard, which left the lead at 1-0 at the end of the first period. In the second period, both teams demonstrated great defense and neither scored a goal. Sidney Vets scored a goal in the beginning of the third period, which secured the win for Rice & Brouillard Electric. Arty’s Roast Beef has a 6-1-1 record, and Rice & Brouillard has a 5-3 record.

Fantini Bakery won by a forfeit against Stymies Pizza. Fantini Bakery has a 5-2-1 record and Stymies Pizza has a 4-4 record.

Major League Floor Hockey, Week 8

Blase Distefano took over first place with a big victory over Messinger Chiropractic. Ian Miller scored the first goal for Blase Distefano in the first period with 28.4 seconds left. In the second period, both teams showed great defense and the score remained 1-0. In the third period, Frank Libby scored two goals to secure the win for Blase Distefano, which has a 6-2 record. Messinger has a 2-6 record.

Dempsey Insurance showed great offense in a victory over Malcolm Insurance. Ryan Barnes scored the first goal for Dempsey Insurance, which led 1-0 at the start of the second period. Brain Morales scored a goal for Malcolm Insurance to tie the game with 3:01 left in the second period. Dempsey Insurance blew out Malcolm Insurance with four goals in the third period to secure the win. Dempsey Insurance has a 5-3 record, and Malcolm Insurance has a 2-6 record.

Dariya Robinson showed great offense for Pistone Containers in the win over Twomey & Legare Contracting, scoring three goals in the third period. Yonga Zagarella and Sam Powell each scored a goal for Twomey & Legare Contracting, but it wasn’t enough. Pistone Containers has a 4-4 record, and Twomey & Legare Contracting has a 5-3 record.

JV League Floor Hockey, Week 7

Don Wilson demonstrated great teamwork in the victory over Starr Painting. Ian Miller scored the first goal of the game in the first period, givig Starr Painting the lead 1-0. The score remained 1-0 through the second period, but rapidly changed in the beginning of the third period when Carlos Rivera scored a goal to tie the game. With the tie score, the rest of the third period was intense. Daniel Smith scored the goal that secured the win for Don Wilson with 3:49 left.

John Tompkins Jr. showed outstanding goaltending for AZ Landscaping, which beat Sparky’s Wings and Things. Corey Hollins was strong offensively, scoring a hat trick for AZ Landscaping. Jason Love scored the only goal for Sparky Wings & Things, with 12.1 seconds left, which avoided a shutout. AZ Landscaping continued in first place position with a 5-2 record. Sparky’s Wings and Things was left with a 4-3 record.

JV League Floor Hockey, Week 6 (makeup game from Jan. 28 was played Feb. 5)

Don Wilson made a huge comeback from last place and won in overtime against first place-team AZ Landscaping. It was a shutout the entire game, with both teams demonstrating great defense. In the overtime period, Daniel Smith scored the goal for the victory. In the beginning of the season, Don Wilson had a difficult time getting a win, but now the team is tied for second place with a 4-3 record. AZ Landscaping, still in first place, has a 5-2 record.

Minor League Basketball, Week 9

Shoe City Hardware took the victory over The Common 1854. Joshua Santacruz scored a season- and team-high 19 points. Carlos Rivera demonstrated great ball handling, scoring 13 points for Shoe City Hardware. The Common 1854 struggled in the first half with only eight points, but never lost its positive attitude. Shoe City has a 6-3 record, and The Common 1854 has a 3-6 record.

Fireside Restaurant & Pub took the win over Jacqueline’s Grocery Store by one point. Phillip Cunningham and Joe Maniscalco stepped up offensively for Fireside Restaurant & Pub, both scoring 14 points. Cristian Ovalles scored 22 points for Jacqueline’s Grocery Store. Fireside Restaurant & Pub has a 6-3 record, and Jacqueline’s Grocery Story has a 5-4 record.

Early Contractors beat Richdale Convenience Store by two points. Tyresse Gutierrez scored 11 points for Early Contractors, and showed great sportsmanship. Julio Jubert scored 17 points for Richdale Convenience store, but it wasn’t enough. Richdale Convenience Store continued its losing streak, and Early Contractors was left with a 6-3 record.
