The Massachusetts Municipal Association has named state Rep. Brian Dempsey and state Sen. Steven Baddour as the organization's Legislators of the Year.
They received the award for their work on the Municipal Health Insurance Reform law.
The association also saluted the work of Dempsey and Baddour on the 2012 state budget, restoring $65 million in local aid to communities across the state, passing a $200 million highway repair fund and saving local communities $2 billion over the next 30 years through pension reform.
The association is a non-profit, nonpartisan group providing training, literature and research to Massachusetts communities and governing bodies.
The legislators expressed their gratitude for the award.
"I am honored that the MMA has named me as a legislator of the year," said Dempsey, D-Haverhill. "I am pleased we were able to accomplish a great deal."
Baddour, D-Methuen, said there is much more work to be done in the coming year.
"In the months ahead, we must continue to find opportunities to deliver government services efficiently, protect essential services for our most vulnerable citizens and evaluate programs to determine if we are spending our tax dollars effectively,'' he said.
