O’Connor Ives best candidate for Senate
To the editor:
Kathleen O’Connor Ives is the most qualified person to represent us in the Massachusetts State Senate. She has been at the forefront of helping develop and lead Newburyport, one of the best cities to visit in New England.
As city councilor, she has championed neighborhood rights while maintaining a tourist feel that attracts people to Newburyport to help shape the city. Contrast Newburyport and Ives’ record as a councilor with her opponent who has been an embarrassment on Haverhill’s School Committee for many years. He gives meaning to “The Peter Principle’’ — a unqualified person will rise to the level of his incompetence.
Ives carries a law degree. Her bachelor’s degree is from Mt. Holyoke College. Contrast her educational background with her opponent, whose educational background stands deep in the shadows.
She will also be a champion for women’s rights to affordable and safe health care at a time when her opponent supports shutting down the affordable health care act which, among other things, lowers premiums for families, keeps children on parents’ health insurance until age 26 and provides family planning features.
Ives knows the value of a sound education for every child and would not put her own self interests ahead of what she believes is right for all children, another marked contrast from her opponent whose decisions as a Haverhill School Committee person reflected his own narrow, parochial and ignorant response to so many issues.
