Northern Essex Community College graduate Chantal McGovern of Haverhill has received the NECC Alumni Award for Outstanding Achievement.
The NECC Alumni Association gives the award to a graduating student who has gained distinction through academic achievement and involvement in campus activities or community service.
McGovern was recognized for her leadership on campus. She is one of the longest-serving staff members at the NECC Observer, the college's award-winning student newspaper. Most recently she served as executive editor and circulation manager. She also works at the NECC library.
McGovern graduated with high honors with associate degrees in liberal arts with psychology, writing, and middle/high school teaching options. In September, she will attend UMass Lowell to continue studying psychology. She plans to pursue a career as a child psychologist.
