Republicans to hold breakfast/straw poll: The Haverhill Republican City Committee will hold a breakfast and straw poll on April 20 from 8 to 11 a.m. at Maria’s Family Restaurant, 81 Essex St. The nonbinding poll, which will cost each voter $10 per ballot, is intended to generate excitement for the upcoming campaign for the Republican U.S. Senate race. All Republican candidates and their teams are invited. Ballots will be counted in public at 11:01 a.m.

Council on Aging plans BSO rehearsal trip: The Council on Aging will host a trip to Symphony Hall on May 2 for the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s morning rehearsal performance. A bus will depart at 9 a.m and return about 2 p.m. The rehearsal program will be conducted by Bernard Haitink and includes works by Brahms and Shubert. Cost is $35 and seating is limited. Blue Mass to honor public safety personnel: A Blue Mass honoring all public safety personnel in Greater Haverhill is May 5 at 2 p.m. at All Saints Parish. A banquet will follow in the church hall. Awards and prizes will be offered in recognition of service. Family and friends are invited. This event is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 202 in Haverhill. KidsFEST set for May 5: The Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce will present KidsFEST on May 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Haverhill. This year’s theme is the Wizard of Oz and the event is being held in partnership with Merrimack Valley Hospital and Trinity EMS. The upper deck of the Merrimack Street parking garage will be transformed into the Emerald City, complete with a field of poppies, a hot air balloon, a yellow brick road and many more “hidden surprises.” A Wizard of Oz Munchkin Parade will replace the Doll Parade. Children are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite Wizard of Oz character, and to bring a doll or teddy bear along to celebrate. The first-place winner of the Munchkin Parade will receive a $75 gift certificate to Build-a-Bear, and all children will receive a ribbon for their participation. The KidsFEST Committee is accepting additional vendor applications for retail, restaurant, service, nonprofit, and youth-focused organizations.
