Members of the League of Women Voters of Greater Haverhill were at Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School on May 2 and Haverhill High School on May 3 to register students to vote. Carol Pelchat, president of the league, registered 36 eligible students at Whittier and 24 students at Haverhill High before the first lunch period. Pelchat, who set up a table outside Haverhill High's cafeteria, said students were well prepared as they all brought their IDs. The league plans to return to Haverhill High this week.

Team Haverhill's upcoming Wizard of Oz gala fundraiser and auction is sold out. All 250 tickets have been sold and members of Team Haverhill say they are delighted.
They say the big attraction was the event's "excellent" array of live and silent auction items. The gala event is May 19 at the Roma restaurant in Bradford and is a benefit for the Essex Street Gateway Mural, which is being painted an outside wall of a four-story building at 25 Essex St.
The Lamplighter wishes congratulations to Haverhill High football coach Tim O'Connor and his family. The O'Connors welcomed Owen Isaac O'Connor on March 31. Owen touched the scales at 8 pounds, 7 ounces.
The Haverhill High lacrosse team held a successful fundraiser on Saturday. The recycling fundraiser generated more than $1,000 for the Hillies lacrosse program.
