Conservation Officer Mark Sheehan got an emergency call about a woman being frightened by a beaver in her home. Mark reported back it wasn't a beaver but a woodchuck and he chased it out of the house and told the woman she wouldn't be bothered by such animals if she kept her door closed.
Visitors to the John Greenleaf Whittier Birthplace have been plentiful this summer, according to interim curator Gus Reusch. He reports the person who came the most distance was from the Netherlands who had just moved to this country, and she came because of her respect for Whittier as an abolitionist.
Everything can't be perfect. Haverhill police have a bunch of new cruisers, but one officer says one thing is missing: a dome light. Without it, he can't complete reports in the car, and must go into the station.
The television announcer for the Tampa Bay Rays division-leading baseball team is high in his praise of Haverhill's Carlos Pena. The TV man said last week, "Carlos is swinging a terrific bat."
Almost time for Halloween activity but nothing yet this year from Rob Zombie, Haverhill's contribution to the horror scene. He came up with a new movie last year.
