Penacook Place names Employees of the Month
Three Penacook Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center staff members have been named Employees of the Month for the second quarter of 2008: Certified Nursing Assistant Camilaa "Lee" Roix of Groveland (April), Dining Services employee Alvin Bonilla of Haverhill (May) and Maintenance Services employee Martin Santiago Sr. of Bradford (June). Employees of the Month are selected by members of Penacook's management team from a list of nominees. Anyone can nominate an employee, including co-workers, managers, residents and family members. Penacook honors employees of the month during a recognition ceremony at the end of each quarter.
NECC employees recieve quarterly recognition
Three Northern Essex Community College employees recently received the college's Employee Performance Recognition Award: Tracy Fitzgerald of Haverhill, Elizabeth Lewis of Amesbury and Christine DeRosa of Methuem. The award was started by NECC President David Hartleb as a way to recognize the varied contributions of the college's nearly 700 employees. Employees are selected each quarter based on recommendations from supervisors and co-workers. Recipients receive a $100 certificate to the restaurant or mall of their choice.
Credit union treasurer joins school Site Council
Northeast Community Credit Union CEO Peter DiBenedetto has been named a member of the Dr. A.B. Consentino Middle School Site Council in Haverhill. Site councils are school building based committees that focus on improving the school. Required by the Massachusetts Education Reform Law, site councils seek to bring members of the school community together with leaders in the community to participate in shaping the policies and programs of the school. The focus of the Consentino Site Council is to focus on ways to increase student achievement.
DiBenedetto is also treasurer of the credit union.
Attorney teaches seminar at massage conference
Haverhill attorney Roger Turgeon was a featured speaker at the National Convention of the American Massage Therapy Association recentl in Phoenix, Arizona. The legal seminar, "Massage Therapy on Trial: Working with the Legal System," addressed legal issues of interest to massage therapists, including whether to incorporate, employer-employee relationships, acting as expert witnesses and malpractice concerns. Turgeon is the first speaker to address legal concerns at the national convention. He is the principal attorney at Turgeon & Associates in Haverhill.
Local dentist accepted to leadership institute
Dr. Abol Massih Tehrani, a prosthodontist in Haverhill and a member of the Massachusetts Dental Society, has been accepted into the Society's Leadership Institute. The Leadership Institute is designed to provide dentists with tools and training to become effective civic leaders in their communities, nonprofit organizations or professional associations on a local, state or national level. Selected participants are required to attend four participatory sessions with well-known leaders and speakers and a team building event. Following completion of the training sessions, participants are required to take part in a year-long ad hoc committee that is focused on an issue affecting dentistry. Dr. Tehrani practices at 121 Merrimack St. in Haverhill and lives in Atkinson, N.H.

Network at NECC to aid nonprofits
Nonprofit organizations in the Merrimack Valley, struggling more than ever because of the downturn in the nation's economy, are able to access premier grant research databases as well as attend professional grant research and grant writing workshops at a newly created Grants Resource Network in the library of the Lawrence campus of Northern Essex Community College on Franklin Street. All Access is free. The Grant Resource Network is a partnership between the Associated Grant Makers of Massachusetts, Jericho Road Lawrence Inc., and Northern Essex Community College.
Business networking group: The Haverhill chapter of Business Network International has a free networking breakfast every Friday at 7 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Haverhill at 346 Broadway. New businesses are welcome. BNI is a business and professional networking organization whose purpose is to exchange qualified business referrals.
