Police reports, April 7 to 13


Thieves break into nine vehicles overnight, vandalize one

Police received reports that nine vehicles had been broken into on or around Sunday, April 12.

A man told police he noticed that his 2001 Dodge Ram pickup truck had been entered during the night of April 11 at 3 South Spring St., police said. He told police that a mechanics magnet with an orange handle and $10 worth of loose change was missing, police said.

This incident was reported at 8:40 a.m. Sunday, April 12, police said.

At that time, dispatch informed the responding officer there were another eight vehicles in the area that had been entered, police said.

At 12 New Hampshire Ave., a Magellan GPS worth $350, along with another $10 in loose change, was taken from an unlocked 2001 Chevy Silverado pickup truck, and a personal checkbook, $20 and an unknown amount of loose change was taken from an unlocked 2002 Dodge Caravan, police said.

At 11 New Hampshire Ave., a Tom Tom GPS worth $350 was taken from an unlocked 1996 Toyota Avalon, police said.

At 50 Bradford Ave., three vehicles, all left unlocked, were broken into, police said. Nothing was taken from a 1996 Infinite G20 but the car was ransacked; a Garmin GPS worth $240 and a case worth $75 was taken from a 2005 Kia Amanti; and a DVD player worth $100 was taken from a 2000 Ford 350 van, police said.

At 57 Bradford Ave., a Garmin GPS with cord and a cell phone charger - all worth $400 - was taken from an unlocked 2000 Nissan Maxima, police said.

At 11 S. Spring St., $50 in cash was taken from a wallet left in an unlocked 1994 Ford Taurus, police said.

At 9 New Hampshire Ave., a gouge and scratch was found in the paint on the passenger door of a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, as well as a broken headlight cover, police said.

All incidents were reported on Sunday, April 12, police said.

Lug nuts loosened, brake springs pulled from car

A woman told police she believed someone loosened the lug nuts on her tires and pulled the brake springs to her vehicle, police said.

The victim said that after parking her vehicle overnight at 58 Central St., she noticed the vehicle felt different while she was driving, police said.

The victim had her boyfriend check her vehicle and he found the lug nuts on the back tires loosened and the springs to the brakes were pulled, police said.

The victim told police she does not know how this happened and believes someone must have intentionally caused the damage, police said. She stated she did have work done recently on the brakes of the vehicle but it was driving fine after, and it was not until today she noticed it didn't drive right, police said.

The victim told police that some of her neighbors have had similar problems in that the brake lines to their vehicle were cut but she could not identify the neighbors, police said.

There are no suspects or witnesses at this time. The victim was advised to check her vehicle carefully before driving, police said.

The incident was reported at 4:13 p.m. Monday, April 13, police said.

iPods stolen at Whittier Tech

Two students at Whittier Tech at 115 Amesbury Line Road told police that their iPod Nanos had been stolen from inside the masonry shop, police said.

Both victims told police they left their iPods inside their backpacks in a designated area of the masonry shop, police said.

The first incident occurred between 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, and 2 p.m. on Friday, March 27, police said. The incident was reported on Thursday, April 9, at 12:58 p.m., police said.

The second incident occurred between 10 a.m. and noon on Wednesday, April 8, police said. The incident was reported on Thursday, April 9, at 12:55 p.m., police said.

Auto parts stolen from Jaffarian Toyota

A representative from Jaffarian Toyota at 600 River St. told police that at noon on Wednesday, April 8, a 2009 gray Toyota Corolla was found with its passenger side rear suspension on a wooden black and the passenger rear tire and rim missing, police said.

The motor vehicle was last observed in place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, police said. The property stolen is valued at $840, according to police.

The incident was reported at 12:11 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, police said.

Joia Lawrence, 42, of 15 Ford St., was arrested at 9 a.m. at the Haverhill Police Department on a warrant charging her with nighttime breaking and entering.

Yelda Lopez, 19, of 12 6th Ave., was arrested at 9:15 p.m. at 763 Hilldale Ave. and charged with household assault and battery.

Anthony Aries, 18, of 25 Sherwood Drive, was arrested at 6:55 p.m. at 69 9th Ave. and charged with assault and battery and malicious damage to property over $250.

Jeremy Moore, 21, of 36 Bennington St., was arrested at 6:55 p.m. at his home and charged with domestic assault and battery.

Raul Albizu, 17, of 29 Haverhill St., Amesbury, was arrested at 9:40 p.m. at the Amesbury Police Department and charged with domestic assault and battery.

Steven Szabo, 25, of 14 Buswell St., Methuen, was arrested at 11:30 p.m. on Primrose Street and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence and leaving the scene.

Saturday, April 11

Paul Avagiaros, 50, of 399 Groveland St., was arrested at 5 a.m. at his home and charged with two counts of assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.

April Chute, 17, of 84 Harrison St., was arrested at 11:50 p.m. at her home and charged with domestic assault and battery.

Friday, April 10

Jennifer Woodsum, 25, of 8 Federal St., was arrested at 10:30 a.m. at her home on a warrant charging her with being a fugitive from justice.

A 15-year-old juvenile was arrested at 10:45 a.m. on a warrant charging her with assault and battery and intimidation of a witness.

Richard Willette, 37, of 25 Baltimore St., was arrested at 12:46 p.m. at his home and charged with violating a restraining order.
