BREAKING NEWS: TV host Bergeron waltzes onto NECC campus for book signing
Haverhill native and Emmy award-winning television host Tom Bergeron will appear at Northern Essex Community College's Haverhill Campus on Thursday, June 11, at 11 a.m. to promote his recently penned memoir about his years in television, titled "I'm Hosting as Fast as I Can! Zen and the Art of Staying Sane in Hollywood."
Bergeron, a Haverhill High School graduate and former Northern Essex Community College student, is the host of "Dancing with the Stars," and "America's Funniest Home Videos."
Last week, Bergeron hosted the televised annual Scripps Howard Spelling Bee from Washington, D.C.
His road to fame and fortune was paved with numerous radio and television gigs, beginning in 1972 when he reported for duty as the disc jockey at WHAV in Haverhill. From there, Bergeron went on to the seacoast station WHEB.
Eventually he migrated to Boston where, for more than a decade, he reported to WBZ hosting a number of popular shows.
In 1994, Bergeron took on the role of host of "Breakfast Time" on FX, which became "Fox After Breakfast" and relocated to the FOX network.
His next stop was "Good Morning America," where he was interim anchor. In 1998, he became host of "Hollywood Squares" and continued as anchor of "The Early Show" and guest host of "Good Morning America."
Bergeron's other credits include appearances on "Star Trek: Enterprise," "The Nanny," host of the 60th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, the 33rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards, and the Miss America Pageant.
He also donates time to charities, including the March of Dimes.
The event, which is free to the public, will include a book signing. Books will be available for purchase. A percentage of the book sales will benefit the NECC Scholarship Foundation. The event will be in the Technology Center which is located at 100 Elliott St.
