Amanda N. Wakim of Haverhill was awarded the Very Rev. Mortimer Sullivan, O.S.A. Medal, which is given to the first-ranking student in science and engineering, at Merrimack College's 59th commencement ceremonies on Sunday, May 17.
Wakim graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in biology.

Michelle Pothier, daughter of Bob and Kathy Pothier of Haverhill, graduated with honors from Salem State College's School of Nursing on Saturday, May 16. She is employed by Lynn Union Hospital. Her mother, Kathy Pothier, RN, also graduated with honors on the same day from the School of Nursing. She has been employed by Bethany Homes in Haverhill for the past 16 years as a wellness nurse. She is the daughter of Mary and the late David Merrill of Merrimac.

Robert Taylor of Haverhill will attend Northeastern University in the fall on a scholarship as part of the National Merit Finalist Scholarship Program to pursue a degree in communication studies. Taylor recently graduated from Central Catholic High School.
Michael V.E. Bryant, son of Robert and Jean Bryant of Bradford, and a student at Central Catholic High School, was named the recipient of the 2009 St. Michael's College Scholarship and Service Book Award. The award recognizes students who demonstrate a commitment to volunteerism and leadership through community service.
