The Lamp Post, by the Lamplighter

Haverhill Gazette writer Barney Gallagher would like to let his friends know that he is back in his apartment at Mission Towers, 180 Water St. He looks forward to seeing his friends and hopes they will stop by and say hello.

Small World Department: Patrick McCarthy, co-owner of Lounge 59, has an additional tie to the city. His cousin is Andy Reusch, the new softball coach at Haverhill High. To learn more about Reusch, see Sports, Page 10.

A Haverhill resident will be among the auto enthusiasts exhibiting a custom vehicle at the thirty-sixth annual Town Fair Tire World of Wheels (www.worldofwheels.com) custom car show at Boston's Bayside Expo Center Mar. 12-14. The show will pack Bayside with its now familiar mix of custom cars, an expected 300, and special attractions. Most of the custom vehicles are created by area car buffs, and the Haverhill resident exhibiting a custom creation at this year's show is Jim Gillis, who will show off his custom 1986 Mustang. Gillis says the car is in mint conditions with only 39,000 original miles.

It's not often that kids are disappointed that school is canceled, but Friday, in the aftermath of the recent wind storm, was one of those times. Bradford Elementary students were scheduled to take a field trip to the New England Aquarium for a special science lesson taught by Boston Bruins defenseman Andrew Ference. Ference, a surfer, is an advocate of eco-friendly living and planned to talk to the students about the choices they can make every day to help save the planet.

The Lamplighter might just start looking for a part-time job at Pedro's USA, the bicycle-care products manufacturer moving into the Nofsker Building downtown. CEO Chris Zigmont told reporters this week that part of the office will be taken up by an employee wellness center, where workers will have the chance to practice yoga and receive massages on occasion. The Lamplighter also noticed a barbecue grill among the items being moved in. Burgers, anyone?
