---- — Boys basketball moves into first place
There is still work to be done, but with two more big wins last week, the boys basketball team inched closer to the 2012-13 Merrimack Valley Conference title. Haverhill defeated Chelmsford 54-50 on Tuesday and followed with a 62-54 win over Tewksbury on Friday to move into sole possession of first place in Division 2 of the conference. The Hillies have won eight of their last 10 games and stand at 8-8 overall with five games remaining. They play at Billerica Feb. 8 and at Chelmsford Feb. 12.
The girls basketball team snagged its second win of the year on Wednesday, defeating Malden 36-31. The Hillies will be at home against Lawrence Feb. 8 and Chelmsford Feb. 12.
Ski teams wrap up season
The ski teams wrapped up the regular season earlier this week. The boys team took on state power St. John’s, while the girls team raced against Manchester Essex. The ski seasons will conclude on Tuesday afternoon at Bradford Ski with the Interscholastic Race.
Hillies fourth in swim and dive championship
Haverhill hosted the 2013 MVC Boys Swim & Dive Championship on Friday afternoon.
The Hillies placed fourth in the event. Top Haverhill High finishers included: Max Koffman (third in the 100 free and fourth in the 200 free), Sean Driscoll (fourth in the 100 breastroke and sixth in the 200 IM), Nick Roy (third in the 100 butterfly and fifth in the 200 IM), George Bonner (sixth in both the 50 free and the 100 butterfly), Sam Clough (fifth in the 1m dive), Demani Cartagena (seventh in both the 50 free and 100 free), Joshua DiMattia (seventh in the 1m dive), and Matt Amedeo (second in the 100 butterfly).
Hockey team has solid second half of season
The hockey team had one of its best games of the season on Wednesday with a convincing 3-0 win over Bedford. The Hillies have had a solid second half of the season, going 3-4-2 since Jan. 1. They play their final home game of the season Feb. 16, when they host Methuen.
Wrestlers prepare for tournament
The wrestling program closed out the regular season at home against Masconomet on Wednesday night. The Hillies will participate in the 2013 MIAA Sectional Tournament on Saturday at Lawrence High School.
Hillie track teams gear up for championship meet
The boys and girls indoor track teams will participate in the 2013 MVC Championship Meet at the Reggie Lewis Center on Friday.
Hillie football captains move up to college level
Congratulations to the Hillie football captains who have committed to play at the next level.
Dan Burrows has signed a National Letter of Intent to play at the University of Maine. Chance Brady has decided to play at Tufts University and Tommy Morgan will head to RPI.
Comedy Night March 8
