Donations accepted for auction to benefit downtown mural

The downtown is about to get an artistic face lift, and organizers are looking for money to make the project a reality.

The Team Haverhill civic group is planning a mural designed to showcase a history of Haverhill celebrities. Team Haverhill said it needs $100,000 to complete the project and will hold an auction to raise some of the money.

The auction will be May 19 at the Roma restaurant function hall and its signature item is a fully expensed trip to New York to see the play "Wicked" on Broadway. The package was donated by Haverhill Bank.

"It's such a cool thing to have the community involved in this," said Tim Jordan, one of the co-chairmen of the project.

Jordan said the mural project is getting donations from as far away as Florida. James Audibert, a Haverhill High graduate now living in Florida, could not make it up to Haverhill for the auction but did send a sizable cash donation to help the cause.

The money raised will cover the cost of the mural and will pay for LED lighting to make the mural visible at night. Jordan is hoping to have everything in place by the official unveiling of the mural on June 15.

More than 100 tickets still remain available for the auction. Tickets can be bought by sending checks made payable to GHCC CAEF to ESGM c/o Tim Jordan, 167 Kingsbury Ave., Haverhill, MA 01835 or online at eventbrite.com/event/3032583539.
