Santa prepares for big night, but needs help

The Haverhill Gazette

---- — With two weeks to go until Christmas, Santa is wrapping up his work.

He is making the last bunch of toys and other items for children and their families.

But for him to find his way to some homes on Christmas Eve, he’ll need a little help from you. That’s where The Haverhill Gazette Santa Fund comes in.

The fund gives the public a chance to donate money to help local families who otherwise could not afford gifts.

You can help them by donating to the fund, simply by hitting a few keys on your computer.

The Gazette has a new online site where people can donate to the fund. Just use the link hgazette.com/santafund and the instructions will appear. You can also donate the old-fashioned way, by mailing a check to the Gazette Santa Fund, care of The Eagle-Tribune, 100 Turnpike St., North Andover, MA 01845, or by dropping off a donation at The Eagle-Tribune offices at that address.

If you mail or drop off a donation, you can fill out a coupon appearing inside the Gazette to go with the donation. You can also write your name and address on a separate piece of paper. Donors can list the name of someone in whose memory the money is given.

All money donated to the fund is distributed by organizations such as the Salvation Army and Community Action to Haverhill people who need help during the holidays.

The 43rd annual Haverhill Gazette Santa Fund Hole-in-One Contest in October at Garrison Golf Center raised $5,232 for the fund, an increase of 25 percent over the total from last year’s contest. Garrison owners Ted and Mary Murphy encourage residents to donate to the fund so local families who are struggling can have a good holiday season.
