As much as I hate to say it, the end of summer is quickly approaching. This has been one of our most beautiful summers, but now it is time to get back to a healthful lifestyle.
The Haverhill Council on Aging is offering yoga, tai chi, line dancing, exercise and our new Zumba Gold class. It would be great to start a walking group, and we would welcome volunteer group leaders and walkers. A Nordic walking group at Tattersall Farm would be a great idea!
Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley is presenting a six-week workshop titled "My Life, My Health" at the Citizen Center, 10 Welcome St., beginning Thursday, Sept. 16 at 9 a.m. The workshop will focus on living with the challenges of one or more persistent health conditions such as arthritis or diabetes.
During the course of the sessions health-care professionals will share strategies that have been developed and tested by researchers at Stanford University Medical Center.
These strategies will help participants to set goals, improve quality of life, improve communication with physicians, handle stress, increase energy, and make choices regarding treatment. This is definitely a valuable resource for anyone with a chronic condition.
Here are a few ideas for your fall activities:
The golf clinic at Garrison Par Three Golf Center, 660 Hilldale Ave., is still going strong on Wednesday mornings at 10.
To celebrate the arrival of the fall season we are offering an encore fall foliage trip to the luxurious White Mountain Hotel on Oct. 14 and 15. We have offered this trip several times and it is always a favorite. The food is delicious, the accommodations are exceptional, and entertainment and staff are great.
It may seem early, but we have tickets to the Holiday Pops at Symphony Hall. By purchasing early we have an opportunity to get the best seats available, and we have great seats in the first balcony. Motorcoach transportation is included.
Cara Smoley, our art instructor, resumed classes on Sept. 2. Beginners through experienced students are welcome. Students will explore color, design and light and various media.
