Riverside-Bradford Baseball opening day: The Riverside-Bradford Baseball League will celebrate its opening day on April 27 beginning at 9 a.m. inside Trinity Stadium. Special guest is former Red Sox hitting coach Walt Hriniak. This event will include the introduction of teams and their sponsors. The league will sell T-shirts displaying the message “Help Riverside Bradford Baseball Strike Out Cancer.” The league has donated the shirts, and proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society. The first pitch will be thrown to Hriniak by Bob Duston, the league’s umpiring chief and organizer of the American Cancer Society fundraiser, which is being held in memory of his brother Albert Duston. Rebuilding Together seeks volunteers: Rebuilding Together Greater Haverhill is seeking volunteers to help on April 27 with home repairs and modifications for local income-eligible elderly and homeowners with disabilities. The repairs include installing grab bars and ramps, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and new windows; making electrical and plumbing repairs; and doing cleaning and yard work. Two special “Heroes at Home” projects will be sponsored by Sears/K-Mart to help local veterans in need. Applicants for help must live in Greater Haverhill and be homeowners still living in their home. Household income must meet federal low-income guidelines for the area. YMCA to host Healthy Kids Day: The Haverhill YMCA, 81 Winter St., will celebrate “Healthy Kids Day” on April 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This free community event is open to everyone and is intended to get kids moving and learning, and families living healthier. Healthy Kids Day is the Y’s national initiative to improve the health and well-being of families and to help them get a jump on creating a healthier summer. The event will include open gymnastics and rock climbing, Curious Creatures, food and play productions, basketball clinic and summer camp information.
